Abstract:
    The FourStar galaxy evolution survey (ZFOURGE) is a 45 night legacy
    program with the FourStar near-infrared camera on Magellan and one of
    the most sensitive surveys to date. ZFOURGE covers a total of
    400arcmin^2^ in cosmic fields CDFS, COSMOS and UDS, overlapping the
    CANDELS fields.

Description:
    We present the FourStar galaxy evolution survey (ZFOURGE) photometric
    catalogs comprising >70000 galaxies, selected from ultradeep Ks-band
    detection images (25.5-26.5 AB mag, 5{sigma}, total). We use 5 near-IR
    medium-bandwidth filters (J1, J2, J3, Hs, Hl) as well as broad-band Ks
    at 1.05-2.16 micron to 25-26 AB at a seeing of ~0.5 arcsec. Each field
    has ancillary imaging in 26-40 filters at 0.3-8 micron. We derive
    photometric redshifts, rest-frame U-V and V-J colors, and stellar
    population properties from SED fitting.

    The photometric redshifts have uncertainty {sigma}_z_=0.010, 0.009,
    and 0.011 in CDFS, COSMOS and UDS, respectively, if compared with
    spectroscopic redshifts. A pair test indicates
    {sigma}_z,pairs_=0.01-0.02 at 1<z<2.5 (see Straatman+, 2016).
    Star-formation rates are based on ultraviolet and ultradeep far-IR
    Spitzer/MIPS and Herschel/PACS data.

    FourStar data are gathered with the 6.5m Magellan Telescopes located
    at Las Campanas observatory, Chile, during a total of 45 nights from
    December 2010 until November 2012.

    The FourStar instrument has 6 custom-made near_IR filters:
    J1, 1.0540 um, medium-bandwidth
    J2, 1.1448 um, medium-bandwidth
    J3, 1.2802 um, medium-bandwidth
    Hs, 1.5544 um, medium-bandwidth
    Hl, 1.7020 um, medium-bandwidth
    Ks, 2.1538 um, broad-bandwidth
    Observing conditions were excellent with a seeing of 0.4 to 0.5" for
    most individual frames. We paid special attention to the Ks-band,
    which resulted in a median 0.4 arcsecond seeing.

Note on *agn.dat: AGN selection requires use_flag==1 as the AGN selection
  techniques require a reliable redshift. More details can be found in
  Cowley+ (2016MNRAS.457..629C).
Note on *rest.dat: Each rest frame flux is fit individually.
  This yields slightly different results compared to fitting multiple fluxes
  simultaneously.
  Reported errors are 1-sigma spreads on the flux determined from the width of
  the p(z) as reported by EAZY 1/2*((p84-L_#)+(L_#-p16)).
  UV filters are simple tophat filters. Their response curves are unity to
  175* angstroms on either side of the central wavelength for which it is named
  and zero elsewhere, i.e.:
  r = / 1, if |lambda_c - lambda| < 175
      \ 0, if |lambda_c - lambda| > 175
  All filter curves can be found in calibrations/FILTER_RES_DR34.latest.
  *The uv13 filter is only 110{AA} wide to avoid contamination from Lya.
Note on *rad.dat: A total of 370 radio sources (218 in CDFS, 122 in COSMOS,
  30 in UDS) were cross-matched with the primary ZFOURGE catalogues.
  Radio sources were matched to ZFOURGE to within 1" and positionally corrected
  by calculating the median positional uncertainty in each field. In arcsecs,
  the corrections are CDFS: RA=-0.19;DEC=-0.23, COSMOS: RA=+0.08;DEC=+0.07,
  UDS: RA=+0.03;DEC=+0.37.
  The following resources were used to crossmatch: the LA 1.4GHz Survey of the
  Extended Chandra Deep Field South: 2nd DR (Miller+ 2013, J/ApJS/205/13),
  the VLA-COSMOS Survey IV: Deep Data and Joint Catalogue
  (Schinnerer+ 2010, J/ApJS/188/384) and the Subaru/XMM-Newton Deep Field I:
  100uJy Catalogue (Simpson+ 2006, J/MNRAS/372/741).
Note on *x.dat: A total of 736 X-ray sources (596 in CDFS, 109 in COSMOS,
  31 in UDS) were cross-matched with the primary ZFOURGE catalogues.
  X-ray sources were matched to ZFOURGE to within 1" and positionally corrected
  by calculating the median positional uncertainty in each field. In arcsecs,
  the corrections are CDFS: RA=-0.15;DEC=-0.26, COSMOS: RA=+0.13;DEC=+0.14,
  UDS: RA=+0.02;DEC=-0.16.
  The following AGN classification criteria are adopted in
  Cowley+ (2016MNRAS.457..629C):
  (L_x_>=10**41) & (HR>-0.2)
  (L_x_>=10**42) & (HR<=-0.2)

Note (1): In the absence of a full-band flux value, Fx is calculated
          considering a counts-to-flux conversion factor with
          photon index {Gamma}=1.4
          For sources from X11, the intrinsic flux is derived from counts
          in the 0.5-8keV full band, while from E09 and U08 it is derived from
          the sum of the counts in the relevant bands over 0.5-10keV.
          Flux values were adjusted for sources from E09 and U08 to align with
          the full bandpass values of X11 by assuming a power-law model with
          photon index {Gamma}=1.4 (i.e. E09 and U08 fluxes are multiplied
          by a factor of 0.95).
Note (2): The rest-frame X-ray luminosity is calculated using:
          Lx=(4*pi*ld**2)*f_x*(1+z_peak)**({Gamma}-2)
          where ld is the luminosity distance (cm) and {Gamma} is the photon
          index (fixed to {Gamma}=1.4).
Note (3): The hardness ratio (HR) is calculated using: HR = (H-S)/(H+S)
          where H and S are the count rates in the hard (2-8 or 2-10keV) and
          soft (0.5-2keV) bands, respectively.

       In UDS the additional filters are CFHT/MegaCam/U (O. Almaini 2016,
       in preparation; S. Foucaud 2016, in preparation),
       Subaru/Surpime-Cam/B, V, R, i, z (Furusawa+ 2008ASPC..399..131F),
       UKIRT/WFCAM/J, H, Ks (O. Almaini 2016, in preparation), HST/WFC3/F125W,
       F140W, F160W and HST/ACSF606W, F814W (Grogin+ 2011ApJS..197...35G;
       Koekemoer+ 2011ApJS..197...36K; Brammer+ 2012ApJS..200...13B) and
       VLT/HAWK-I/Y (Fontana+ 2014, J/A+A/570/A11).
       KsHI comes from a combined VLT/HAWKI and Magellan/FOURSTAR image.

Global notes:
Note (G1): This flag is set to 1 if the source is likely to be a star,
           to 0 otherwise.
Note (G2): This flag is set to 1 if the source is located within r(")<10-(m-16)
           of a bright star with m the apparent magnitude of the star and
           m<17.5 in J1, J2, J3, J or Ks.
Note (G3): Sources that pass the following criteria are set to 1:
        * star = 0
        * nearstar = 0
        * snr>=5
        * wminfs>0.1 (A minimum exposure time of at least 0.1xthe median
           exposure in the FourStar bands)
        * wminOpt>0 (coverage in all optical bands)
        * not a catastrophic EAZY fit: {chi}^2^(reduced)<=1000
        * not a catastrophic FAST fit, i.e., a finite and positive stellar
           mass estimate above 10^6^M_{sun}_
        * consistent flux ratios between similar bands of different instruments,
           namely the J-, H-, and K-bands of FourStar and VISTA, and F814W- and
           groundbased I-bands
        * no 5{sigma} detection at wavelengths bluer than the restframe 912{AA}
           Lyman limit
        * not at z<0.1
Note (G4): Source Extractor internal flags. Flags contains, coded in decimal,
           all the extraction flags as a sum of powers of 2:
       1 = The object has neighbours, bright and close enough to significantly
           bias the MAG AUTO photometry, or bad pixels
       2 = The object was originally blended with another one.
       4 = At least one pixel of the object is saturated (or very close to).
       8 = The object is truncated (too close to an image boundary).
      16 = Object's aperture data are incomplete or corrupted.
Note (G5): Spectroscopic redshifts were sourced from the 3D-HST catalogs
           (Skelton+ 2014, J/ApJS/214/24), who in turn use the zCOSMOS catalogs
           (Lilly+ 2007, J/ApJS/172/70), MMT/Hectospec data
           (Fabricant+ 2005PASP..117.1411F; Mink+ 2007ASPC..376..249M),
           the FIREWORKS catalog (Wuyts+ 2008, J/ApJ/682/985), and a
           variety of UDS sources (Yamada+ 2005ApJ...634..861Y;
           Simpson+ 2006MNRAS.373L..21S; Geach+ 2007MNRAS.381.1369G;
           van Breukelen+ 2007MNRAS.382..971V; Ouchi+ 2008, J/ApJS/176/301;
           Smail+ 2008MNRAS.389..407S; Ono+ 2010MNRAS.402.1580O;
           Simpson+ 2012, J/MNRAS/421/3060; M. Akiyama et al., in preparation).
           Additionally, we crossmatch and identify additional sources from the
           MOSDEF survey (Kriek+ 2015ApJS..218...15K) and the
           VIMOS Ultra-Deep Survey (VUDS) Le Fevre+ (2015A&A...576A..79L).
           All sources were matched to ZFOURGE to within 1.0". Redshifts from
           the 3D-HST catalogues are limited to those with the highest quality
           flags in both the COSMOS and CDFS fields.
           For the UDS field, there is a mix of reliable and less
           reliable redshifts ranging from "flag not provided" to
           "multiple reliable features". More details can be found
           in Skelton+ (2014, J/ApJS/214/24). For MOSDEF, spectroscopic
           redshifts are limited to those considered "robust" in
           Kriek+ (2015ApJS..218...15K), i.e., a secure identification and
           measurement of emission lines in the 1D spectra. For VUDS,
           spectroscopic redshifts are limited to those rated a level 2 or
           higher, i.e., 75-100% probability of redshift to be correct.
Note (G6): Zeropoints are effective zeropoints. These have galactic extinction
           and EAZY zeropoint corrections incorporated, such that
           Zeropoint = zeropoint_I + Eazy Offset + galactic extinction, with
           zeropoint_I representing the photometrically derived
           zeropoint of image I based on standard stars.
